B&B Hotels completes refurbishment of seven UK properties

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

B&B Hotels has officially completed the refurbishment of all seven of its UK hotels, concluding an 18-month investment programme aimed at updating the group’s British portfolio.

The European budget hotel operator marked the milestone with a showcase event in Birmingham, which was attended by suppliers, business partners and customers.

The refurbishments covered properties in Birmingham, Cambridge, Derby, Heathrow, Inverness, Ipswich and Warrington. The group said the work included upgraded guest rooms and redesigned communal areas, with a focus on simpler layouts and updated interiors.

The UK programme forms part of B&B Hotels’ wider efforts to strengthen its position in the market, where it operates a small but geographically spread portfolio. The company said the refurbished hotels are intended to provide low-cost accommodation while meeting updated design and operational standards.

Sustainability has also been incorporated into the programme. B&B Hotels said its operations are certified by SOCOTEC – a testing, inspection and certification group – and that environmental measures have been integrated across the refurbished sites.

Patrick O’Connell, chief executive officer of B&B Hotels UK, said: “It’s been an incredible journey over the past 18 months launching seven hotels within the group. I’m incredibly grateful to the B and B UK team for all of their hard work and to our extensive portfolio of suppliers and partners along the way.

“Together we’re delivering excellence in hospitality at an affordable price for our customers and mindful of our impact on the planet.”

With the refurbishment programme completed, the group said it is assessing further opportunities for expansion across major cities and regional centres in the UK.

Founded in 1990 in Brest, Brittany, B&B Hotels operates more than 900 hotels across 19 countries in Europe, Brazil and the United States. The group has been majority-owned by Goldman Sachs since 2019 and has expanded rapidly since 2022.
