Zedwell has confirmed plans to convert an office building at 39 Bell Lane in Spitalfields into a flagship hotel featuring 143 rooms and affordable workspace.
The project, located at the junction of Bell Lane and Artillery Lane, will transform the vacant six-storey building into a 40,000 sq ft mixed-use destination.
The developer will add a vertical extension and enhance the façade of the property. It will also provide 7,500 sq ft of workspace for small businesses.
The announcement follows recent expansion news from the hospitality platform in Oxford and York. The brand currently has a pipeline of more than 9,000 rooms by 2028.
Construction will involve the reuse of the existing structure to reduce embodied carbon. The site is located near Liverpool Street Station and Old Spitalfields Market.
The hotel rooms, described by the company as cocoons, feature purified air systems and soundproofing. The guest journey is managed through a digital check-in process.
Head of hotels at Zedwell Halima Aziz said: “Spitalfields sits at the crossroads of London’s financial, cultural and creative districts and attracts a diverse mix of international visitors, professionals and entrepreneurs, making it an exceptional location for Zedwell.
“With a current and committed pipeline of more than 9,000 rooms by 2028, we are continuing to build a scalable platform in the world’s most supply-constrained urban markets, and Spitalfields represents another important step in that journey.”
