Hospitality platform Zedwell has announced plans to open a new hotel in central Oxford as part of a nationwide expansion strategy.

The company will occupy Oxenford House, a six-storey building located between Cornmarket Street and George Street. The 22,000 sq ft site sits near the Ashmolean Museum and Gloucester Green Market.

Oxford attracts more than 7 million visitors annually. The city supports an innovation economy across biosciences, healthcare and technology, including the £6bn ‘Motorsport Valley’ automotive cluster.

The hotel will feature a fully automated guest journey including self check-in kiosks and digital key access. Rooms include soundproofing, air purification systems and ambient lighting designed to reduce noise and light pollution.

The platform uses AI-powered WhatsApp assistance to support guests. This Oxford site forms part of a development pipeline intended to reach 9,000 rooms by 2028.

Head of hotels at Zedwell Halima Aziz said: “Oxford is one of the world’s most iconic and culturally rich cities, making it a natural fit for Zedwell as we continue to scale across the UK.

“With a current and committed pipeline of more than 9,000 rooms by 2028, Zedwell is gaining powerful momentum across key urban destinations. We look forward to introducing our unique guest experience to Oxford and welcoming travellers from around the world.”

Zedwell expands footprint across UK urban centres

The push for expansion in urban centres aligns with Zedwell’s ongoing strategy, as evidenced by the company’s prior project to convert a Spitalfields office into a 143-room hotel in 2026, detailed in Zedwell’s Spitalfields conversion. This acceleration reflects a long-standing market trend that capitalises on increasing demand in cities with vibrant visitor economies, such as Oxford, which garners significant attention from over 7 million tourists annually.

Further, Zedwell’s commitment to a substantial pipeline of 9,000 rooms by 2028 mirrors their successful acquisition of key locations, including a landmark heritage site in York earlier in 2026. These initiatives portray a clear trajectory towards harnessing the urban hospitality landscape, as Zedwell aims to integrate advanced technology within its offerings to meet modern accommodation needs.

With Oxford’s cultural significance and Zedwell’s innovative approach, the hotel is poised to attract a diverse clientele, marking yet another chapter in the ongoing evolution of the UK hospitality sector.
