In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

Bournemouth West Cliff Hotel and Spa, a large independent hotel, has been sold to Dedigama Properties for an undisclosed sum.

The city centre hotel is located a short distance from the beach and within easy reach of the city’s university and airport.

It features 83 en suite bedrooms, a restaurant, a lounge bar, extensive conference facilities, and a leisure centre.

The sale presented opportunities for further development, including the creation of additional bedrooms as well as expansion of the leisure club.

Ed Bellfield, regional director at Christie at Co, who handled the open market sales process, said: “The sale of Bournemouth West Cliff Hotel & Spa presented a truly rare opportunity to acquire a freehold, full-service hotel in Bournemouth.

“This, combined with the capital expenditure invested in the property over recent years and the significant potential for further business growth, made it an appealing investment opportunity that attracted serious interest from a number of buyers. We wish the new owners every success with their new venture.”

Bournemouth West Cliff Hotel & Spa: A Historical Investment Opportunity

The sale of Bournemouth West Cliff Hotel and Spa continues a noteworthy trend in the acquisition of prominent properties in the area, previously listed for £7.5m in May 2025. Notable for its extensive facilities, the hotel has undergone significant capital investment, including a £500k refurbishment in May 2023.

This acquisition by Dedigama Properties aligns with a history of market interest in the Bournemouth region, evidenced by other investments and management strategies, such as Aimbridge Hospitality’s management agreement in March 2026. The strategic focus on enhancing business operations and property expansions indicates a sustained demand for quality hotel experiences in Bournemouth.
