Manor House in Thomas Hardy country for sale for £1.7m

In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

A 16th Century Manor House overlooking Dorset’s Chesil Beach has been placed on the market for offers in the region of £1.7m.

The country hotel at West Bexington in Dorset offers three en-suite rooms, a four-bedroom private house and two acres of grounds. Six miles south of the thriving market town of Bridport and not far from Weymouth and Dorchester, the Manor House has been “extensively refurbished”.

The restaurant is normally laid for 40 covers but can accommodate 60 in a private function and the two-acre grounds include a sun terrace which can accommodate a 150 in a guest marquee. In addition to the present facilities the former skittle alley has a lapsed planning permission for development.

Ed Jefferson from Colliers International’s hotels team, who is handling the sale, said: “With one foot in Thomas Hardy country and the other on the Jurassic Coast, this Grade II-listed hotel is in an excellent spot to enjoy year-round trade. Originally a farmhouse, the hotel has excellent views over the countryside, Chesil Beach, and out to sea, ‘where country meets coast’.

“Our clients bought the property in 2010 as a family lifestyle business and set about a comprehensive refurbishment to leave the hotel fit for the next generation. Having updated the business they have decided to place it on the market and explore a well-earned retirement.”

He added: “The Manor House enjoys a truly stunning year-round location within a short walk of the beach but is also ideally located to explore the Jurassic Coast World Heritage site and spend time in the busy centres of Weymouth, Bridport and Dorchester.”
