The Medlock launches recruitment drive for Manchester residents

The new Radisson Blu hotel at Etihad Campus is set to create more than 100 jobs

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

The Medlock, a new 401-bedroom hotel at the Etihad Campus, has launched a recruitment drive for more than 100 positions.

The hotel is a partnership between Manchester City Football Club and Radisson Hotel Group.

Vacancies are available across housekeeping, engineering, reservations, and front-of-house departments.

The recruitment process is being managed by the hotel’s operator, Valor Hospitality, in collaboration with training provider Total People.

The partnership with Total People will provide vocational qualifications and training programmes for Manchester residents entering the hospitality sector.

The recruitment drive prioritises local employment ahead of the hotel’s opening later this year.

Job advertisements will be published on 27 April 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend open days scheduled for mid-May.

The hotel is part of the Medlock Square development located between the Etihad Stadium and the Co-op Live arena.

The site forms the next phase of the Etihad Campus and will include entertainment and dining facilities.

Richard Pearson, general manager, said: “This is a milestone we’ve been eagerly anticipating, building the team that will bring The Medlock to life. We’re looking for people who carry the spirit of Manchester with them, people who are proud of where they’re from and passionate about creating something special together.

“The Medlock is about more than great service; it’s about connection, community and character. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting partnership between Manchester City Football Club, Radisson Hotel Group and Valor Hospitality, and to help shape a destination that truly reflects this city.”

Pearson added: “Valor Hospitality is dedicated to creating a supportive and rewarding workplace, offering a generous benefits package, strong health and wellbeing support, and real opportunities for growth. I’m excited to meet our new team as we prepare for our grand opening later this year.”

The Medlock prioritises local hiring ahead of launch

News Analysis

The Medlock hotel, a venture between Radisson Hotel Group and Manchester City Football Club, is ramping up its recruitment efforts ahead of its scheduled opening in late 2026. This follows the September 2025 appointment of Richard Pearson as general manager, who indicated an early focus on community integration through local hiring strategies aligned with previous commitments to engage the Manchester workforce. Key positions are being filled with support from Valor Hospitality and Total People, the latter facilitating vocational training, which echoes earlier mentions of community involvement during the hotel’s announcement in March 2025.

The Medlock’s recruitment drive is symptomatic of the broader hospitality sector’s need to cultivate local talent as revenue-driving events return to venues like the Etihad Stadium and Co-op Live. This approach is underpinned by a rising demand for skilled staff in the face of heightened competition for bookings in Manchester’s hospitality market, underscored by the city’s ongoing expansion of entertainment facilities. Given the hotel’s strategic location within the Etihad Campus — part of a £300 million development — this initiative may also reflect a response to the challenges posed by labour shortages as the hospitality industry battles to restore its pre-pandemic workforce levels.
