Hotel owner and operator Starboard Hotels has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of two Holiday Inn hotels.

The company has completed the purchase of the Holiday Inn Express Tamworth and the Holiday Inn Express Ramsgate, both of which were markets by Christie & Co for offers in excess of £11.5m.

The deal will see Starboard’s portfolio rise to 13 hotels and brings the number of Holiday Inn Express branded properties owned and operated by Starboard to five, adding to the Holiday Inn Express hotels in Greenock, Burnley and Leeds Armouries.

Paul Callingham, managing director of Starboard Hotels, said: “We are delighted to be expanding further and welcome the two Holiday Inn Express properties and their teams into the Starboard family.

Both are great hotels with dedicated teams in superb locations and with excellent reputations, which we will continue to develop. We know and understand the brand and believe we can add significant value to the hotel offering in both Tamworth and Ramsgate.”

The 120-bedroomed Holiday Inn Express Tamworth built in 2010, is a contemporary lake-side hotel situated on the outskirts of the historic town centre, while the art deco-listed Holiday Inn Express Ramsgate features 105 bedrooms.

Both hotels will continue trading under the Holiday Inn Express brand and will be operated by Starboard Hotels under franchise from InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG).
