Amazon launches ‘Alexa for Hospitality’ scheme

In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

Online retail giant Amazon has announced the ‘Alexa for Hospitality’ scheme, allowing guests to use Amazon’s Echo device in their hotel rooms.

The group said this will help deepen guest engagement through ‘voice-first experiences’, that offer new ways for guests to access services and amenities during their stay.

The scheme will be available to hospitality providers by invitation, with Marriott International being the first to introduce the scheme at select properties.

Daniel Rausch, vice president of Amazon, said: “Customers tell us they love how easy it is to get information, enjoy entertainment, and control connected devices by simply asking Alexa, and we want to offer those experiences everywhere customers want them.

“Alexa for Hospitality makes your hotel stay a little more like being at home and gives hospitality providers new ways to create memorable stays for their guests.”

Jennifer Hsieh, vice president customer experience innovation at Marriott International, said: “[The hotel group] has a long track record of innovating for our guests, and we’re thrilled to be among the first to offer Alexa for Hospitality. So many of our guests use voice technology in their home, and we want to extend that convenience to their travel experience.”
