Nearly 50 people have been forced to evacuate a hotel in Deeside as emergency services tackle a serious fire that has engulfed the building.
Firefighters are currently in attendance at the Gateway to Wales Hotel on Welsh Road in Deeside. More than a dozen emergency services vehicles including seven fire engines and four ambulances raced to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 4.30am.
A spokesperson for North Wales Fire Service, said: “Seven fire appliances, one from Flint, Mold, Buckley, Wrexham and Chester, and two from Deeside, together with two aerial ladder platforms from Wrexham and Chester are in attendance at the incident.
“On arrival, firefighters found the roof space of the building well alight and used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two main jets to tackle the fire. All residents and staff at the hotel have been accounted for and have been evacuated to a safe area.”
Nearby resident, Danny Lawton, wrote on Facebook: “Woke up at 5 in the morning to the police banging on the door. “The woman says: ‘There’s a little bit of a fire at the hotel next door, you need to get out.’”
Sharing a photo of the extent of the fire, he added: “Not sure what that woman thinks a big fire is, but I’d call this a bit more than a ‘little fire’.”
