Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

The grade II-listed Boscundle Manor Hotel has been hailed as the ‘most romantic’ hotel in Cornwall and has remained a popular destination for weddings and famous guests over the decades.

A mile away from Cornwall’s coastline and The Eden Project, the Boscundle’s current owners have updated the property to make it more contemporary, while at the same time a conscious effort has been made for the hotel to retain its traditional, scenic charm.

Humble beginnings

Despite being built 250 years ago, the property that is now known as Boscundle Manor Hotel has been operating as a hotel since 1978.

Having lived next door to Boscundle Manor for 12 years, owners Sharon and David Parker never envisioned that they would one day own and run the establishment.

But after putting enough love and care into the hotel to get an upgrade on its AA stars, they have both decided that it is time to move on and breathe fresh life into the three AA-star establishment with new owners.

Sharon Parker says: “We still love Boscundle Manor, but in our hearts we know it’s a younger person’s game, and we wish to sell to someone who will be as passionate about it as we are – allowing us time to travel.”

The location

Over the years, the setting of the Manor has made it an easy choice for those who visit Cornwall. The hotel is not too far away from The Eden Project which is among the top attractions in the UK, as well as being used as a setting for many film and music events.

Cornwall is an allure in itself, winning the Top UK Visitor destination, eight years in a row. It is also located near a Cornish beach with clear waters, a feature which has helped the county become a highly frequented surfing spot for water sport enthusiasts.

Its charm

After the owners spent a considerable amount of money refurbishing and updating the property, the 13-bedroom hotel has continued to attract a variety of guests for all sorts of purposes. Its location means it is a highly sought after destination for marital ceremonies, whilst the spa transforms it into a relaxing haven for visitors of all ages.

The Boscundle Manor’s clientele go beyond the everyday man with Barbara Windsor, Michael Sheen and the Kaiser Chiefs being among some of its guests to grace the premises. Many TV shows and films are shot nearby, resulting in notable public figures turning to the manor for shelter once the working day is done.

The hotel’s homely yet luxuriously designed rooms make it perfect for honeymooners, families and even those with dogs.

Its accolades

Following a recent AA inspection, Boscundle Manor attained an upgrade on its rating to three silver stars. The on-site restaurant proves to be just as impressive, retaining a two rosette rating from the AA. The Parkers’ believe the property offers a “fantastic” opportunity to a Michelin-starred chef to open a destination restaurant with rooms.

Being among the top three-star hotels in Cornwall, the Boscundle Manor Hotel proves that it gets better with age and only has more to give to whoever decides to take it over from the Parkers.
