Cromlix receives planning permission for new wellness spa

In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

Cromlix, a country house hotel owned by Kim and Andy Murray, has received planning approval for the conversion of an existing building into a wellness cottage.

The building, which is located in the 34 acres of woodland surrounding the hotel, is currently used for storage, but will be repurposed in 2024 to convert it into a wellness space.

Treatments in the wellness cottage will be in collaboration with Edinburgh based MODM who currently supply handmade vanity products used throughout the hotel.

Cromlix has worked with architect Fergus Purdie and interior designers Garuda Design to put plans for the wellness cabin together.

Earlier this year, Cromlix was completely refurbished in a three-month project to upgrade all bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas of the hotel including the restaurant and bar.

Barry Makin, general manager, said: “Wellness is an increasingly important trend in the
travel industry. While we are already lucky to have plenty to offer in that space, from walks
in the grounds to flower arranging using blooms from the kitchen garden to pickleball, we
feel that the wellness cottage is an important part of the jigsaw.

“We are excited to be able to add this next year as part of our continued plans to extend our excellent guest experience here at Cromlix.”

Cromlix was purchased by the Murray’s in 2013 and has 15 bedrooms and a self-catering lodge house.
