Valerie Donaldson has been appointed as the general manager of the upcoming Radisson Blu Hotel Sheffield, set to open this summer. With a background spanning over a decade within the Radisson Hotel Group, Donaldson will oversee the opening of the 154-room hotel, situated in the heart of Sheffield city centre. Her extensive experience includes successfully leading the refurbishment of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Leeds. Donaldson aims to create a vibrant destination within Sheffield, capitalising on the city’s ongoing regeneration efforts as part of the Heart of the City II project.

Crerar Hotels Group has welcomed Claire Johnston as people director and Laura Dunphy as director of learning and development. Johnston brings with her decades of experience in the hospitality sector, focusing on human resources management and employee relations. Dunphy, recognised for her achievements in hospitality leadership, will spearhead learning and development initiatives, including apprenticeship programs and training across all properties within the group.

Sheffield United Football Club has approved the redevelopment of the hotel at Bramall Lane into a DoubleTree by Hilton. The 155-room hotel, set to open in late summer 2024, will enhance the matchday experience for supporters and contribute to the ongoing development of the S2 area. The project aims to boost the local economy with the creation of 100 new jobs and provide modern amenities, including a fitness centre and events space.

Gareth Byrne has been appointed as the new general manager of Lough Erne Resort, a five-star hotel, spa, and golf destination. With extensive experience in luxury hospitality, Byrne aims to enhance guest experiences and strengthen partnerships within the Fermanagh Lakelands. His appointment coincides with the completion of a refurbishment project, showcasing updated guest rooms and communal areas, with further upgrades planned for the resort’s lodges. Byrne emphasises a commitment to promoting authentic experiences and supporting local businesses and tourism providers in the region.
