French hospitality group Accor has announced that Tankersley Manor Hotel in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has been rebranded to a Mercure hotel following an “ extensive refurbishment.

Mercure Barnsley Tankersley Manor Hotel is a former 17th Century Grade II-listed residence and retains much of its original character including oak beams and Yorkshire stone walls.

The property features 98 guest rooms, a restaurant serving locally sourced food and a spa with a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and treatment rooms. The hotel also offers 12 separate state of the art meeting and event rooms with capacity ranging from 15 to 400 people.

Cristina de Oliveira-Frewen, SVP franchise operations, Accor Northern Europe, said: “We are delighted to have rebranded the historic Tankersley Manor to a Mercure.

“This is our 8th Mercure opening in 2019 and the first Accor hotel for the owners, our new partners. By the end of the year the Mercure brand will have grown to more than 90 hotels in the UK and remains the midmarket brand of choice for franchise.”

She added: “The hotel now offers guests all the internationally recognisable aspects of a Mercure within the setting of a beautiful historic building. With easy access to Barnsley, Leeds and Sheffield as well as the Peak District we are confident the rebrand will expand the appeal of this hotel still further with business and leisure visitors.”
