Shankly Hotel set to open in Liverpool next week

The Shankly hotel, which was conceived in honour of the late ex-Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly, is set to open this month on August 15.

Construction began on the 84-bedroom hotel in February this year and the first stage of the £20m project, which will include a 150-seat restaurant and bar named ‘The Bastion’, is now almost complete in time for the Premier league season.

The 145,000 square foot site will also include a museum dedicated to Bill Shankly, featuring never-before-seen family memorabilia from his time in charge at Liverpool.

The hotel, which is a joint venture between the Shankly family and Signature Living, is expected to create 200 full-time and part-time jobs and a number of apprenticeships.

Lawrence Kenwright, founder and director of Signature Living, said: “We’re really excited to unveil our fantastic hotel. The team has worked incredibly hard getting the first phase ready in just over five months. I think the hotel will play a major part in regenerating the Victoria Street district of the city.

“This is only the beginning of the project and we’re very much looking forward to unveiling the second phase of the development which will include a rooftop bar and restaurant, conference facility and rooftop garden in spring 2016.”

Christopher Carline, Shankly’s grandson and hotel director, added that the hotel opening will be an “incredibly proud” moment for the Shankly family.

The second-stage of development, which is expected to be completed in spring 2016, will include a 100ft serpent slide.
