St James’s Hotel Group has announced plans to open a new 117-bedroom boutique hotel in Bath.
Work on the creation of the new hotel, which will be named Hotel Indigo Bath, will begin in the New Year with the property expected to open in spring 2017. It will be operated under a franchise agreement with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and St James’s.
The hotel will occupy a number of Grade 1-listed Georgian properties in the cities South Parade, which will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment. These include Pratt’s Hotel, the Halcyon Hotel and a neighbouring property.
Pratt’s Hotel, part of a portfolio of Forestdale hotels acquired by St James’s in 2014, will be temporarily closed from Monday 4 January and the Halcyon from the end of January for the refurbishment.
The closures will result in 36 redundancies, but the new hotel is expected to create 60 new jobs.
Shaun Robinson, managing director of St James’s, said: “It is good to be starting on site after many months of planning. This is such a good opportunity to create an outstanding boutique hotel right in the heart of Bath, one of the UK’s most popular tourist destinations, and Hotel Indigo is just the right brand.”
