The Francis Hotel in Bath has officially opened a new spa, marking the final stage of a £14m renovation of the historic Georgian property.

Located on Queen Square, the facility is situated beneath the hotel townhouses. It includes three treatment rooms, a relaxation area, and the only private thermal experience suite in the city.

The thermal suite features a foam steam bath, a shower circuit, and a heated relaxation bench. Guests can also access a steam cabin for traditional mud rituals and cold spray treatments.

The menu includes holistic rituals, reflexology, and Reiki alongside specialist facials and body therapies designed for skin recovery and restoration.

News of the spa opening follows the refurbishment of 98 bedrooms and the opening of the Emberwood restaurant. The hotel was recently named among the top 50 places to stay in the UK.

Sarah Morris, spa manager at the Francis Hotel, said: “Our new spa has been created to honour that legacy while offering something unique for both our hotel guests and the local community. The addition of this brand-new spa allows us to introduce a highly personalised wellness experience delivered by a specialist and passionate spa team.

“Our thermal experience suite is immersive, enjoyable and cutting-edge, offering a multi-sensory journey unlike anything else currently available in the city.”

Bath’s Francis Hotel’s refurbishment journey

The opening of the spa at the Francis Hotel in Bath signifies the culmination of a strategically planned £14m renovation, underscoring a long-term commitment to rejuvenating this historic property. This investment follows on from announcements regarding its earlier refurbishment efforts, including a £13m refurb in April 2024, with significant upgrades to the hotel’s amenities.

The transformation, which included refurbishing 98 bedrooms and introducing new dining options, such as the Emberwood restaurant, aligns with broader industry trends focusing on wellness and experiential offerings. The spa, featuring the only private thermal experience suite in the city, reflects a growing emphasis in the hospitality sector on elevating guest experiences through tailored wellness initiatives, a strategy seen consistently in recent developments as highlighted in September 2025.
