Northumberland hospitality operator Doxford Group has restructured its senior leadership team with the promotion of two long-serving executives as it looks to support the next phase of its regional expansion.
Former finance director Mark Gubbins has been appointed managing director, taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the group’s hospitality, leisure and property portfolio. His promotion comes after a period of growth for the business, including national recognition for its venue, The Tempus.
Darren McErlain, who joined the company in 2022, succeeds Gubbins as finance director. In his new role, McErlain will oversee the group’s financial strategy and future investment opportunities as the business continues to expand.
The appointments form part of the privately owned company’s long-term succession strategy.
Richard Shell, Doxford Group owner and chief executive, said: "Mark has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership, integrity and dedication to our business. Over the years, he has become an invaluable part of our journey, helping us build strong foundations while supporting our ambitious plans for the future. As we continue to grow and develop the group, I am delighted to appoint Mark as managing director."
Gubbins added: "I am delighted to announce Darren’s appointment as Finance Director. He has consistently demonstrated outstanding professionalism, commercial awareness and commitment to the business. Darren’s expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to grow and strengthen the Doxford Group."
McErlain concluded: "I am proud to take on the role of Finance Director at the Doxford Group. Having been part of the business since March 2022 and witnessed its continued success, I am excited to contribute further to its future development. I look forward to working with Mark and the wider team to support the group’s ambitions and deliver long-term value for our customers and employees."
