Luton Hoo Hotel to host auction ahead of major redevelopment

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

The historic Luton Hoo Hotel is set to host a two-day auction, with a “vast” collection of hotel furniture, lighting, and art on offer, ahead of a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the estate.

The auction is set to be one of the largest of its kind, and will feature approximately 3,000 pieces of furniture and hotel assets. These items, offered to the highest bidder over a two-day sale, are from the 267 bedrooms and public areas across the estate’s various buildings

Following the event, titled ‘The Luton Hoo Collection’, The Arora Group, one of the UK’s leading hotel owner-operators, will begin a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the estate, which will see it operating under the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts brand.

The estate’s transformation marks a key part of the Arora Group’s plans for the site since its acquisition in 2021. The new plans, which have received a “significant” portion of planning approval, include extensive upgrades and new facilities designed to enhance the guest experience and create a premier leisure and hospitality destination.

The redevelopment will be carried out over the next few years, with the hotel set to relaunch under the Fairmont flag upon completion. The Arora Group said it has a “strong, proven” partnership with Accor and its Fairmont Hotels and Resorts brand, having previously launched the Fairmont Windsor Park.

This landmark hybrid sale, taking place both on-site at the hotel and through a live online webcast, will raise funds for greater causes. Each winning bid will support charitable causes, with the beneficiaries and total amount raised announced publicly after the event.

Alison Griffin, director of Charitable Services at Arora, said: “This auction is more than just a sale; it’s a chance to give our furniture a second life and support meaningful causes in our community. We’re thrilled to host an event that marries our commitment to the planet with our dedication to giving back.”

Auctioneer Simon Rose added: “We are delighted to be hosting this momentous event at the magnificent Luton Hoo Estate. This is a truly special sale, not only because of the sheer scale and quality of the collection, but also because it’s a chance for buyers to acquire beautiful items while making a tangible difference.”
