We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

The Boars Head and Birchwood House in North Yorkshire have been put on the market for £1.95m.

The 23-bedroom hotel is part of the Ripley Castle Estate and was previously for sale as part of the wider estate but is now available as a standalone business. The Ingilby family, who have owned the estate since the 14th Century, are selling the site as they enter retirement.

The hotel consists of two Grade II listed buildings: the main hotel and coach house, and the nearby Birchwood House. The main building includes a 54-cover restaurant, a bar, a snug and a drawing room overlooking the village square.

The site also features a beer garden and parking for 20 vehicles, with further parking provided at Birchwood House.

Located off the A61, the hotel provides access to Harrogate, Ripon and the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Director in the Colliers hotel agency team Robert Smithson, who is handling the sale, said: “The Boars Head is a superb traditional coaching inn in one of the most attractive and affluent village locations in North Yorkshire.

“It has been extremely well run for many years and benefits from a standout trading position next to Ripley Castle, with excellent access to nearby Harrogate and Ripon. The property offers a compelling opportunity for a new owner to build on its strong foundations and unlock further potential through targeted investment and enhanced marketing.”
