Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon completes £13m refurb

Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon has recently completed a £13.2m refurb. The hotel, which features 93 boutique bedrooms, is located in the heart of Shakespeare’s birthplace and dates back to the early 16th Century. Newly equipped with a state-of-the-art gym, a private dining room, snug lounge, cocktail bar and modern meeting rooms, the hotel also offers a luxury dining experience for its guests. The Woodsman Restaurant has also been created by restaurateur and chef Mike Robinson who has the only Michelin star pub in London. Plans were originally laid out to refurbish the roof, but the job quickly grew in size when it was found to be beyond repair and had to be removed entirely, along with the internal plastering which was reinstated by a specialist company. Measures were also taken to preserve and replace the external beams and timber flooring in a bid to protect to the hotel’s defining features. St James’s Hotel Group, who operate the hotel, chose to partner with construction firm Stepnell and architect firm Hitchman Stone Partnership to deliver the refurbishment. Simon Hall, operations director at St James’s Hotel Group, said: “While this extensive project has been challenging, the completed hotel is incredibly satisfying. Together we have brought a wonderful piece of local history back to life - the fantastic design from the architects and then the professionalism and dedication of Stepnell to deliver such a high quality finish has given us all a great sense of achievement which we are very proud and excited to share with the many guests now coming to stay. “This hotel is a prime example of how Hotel Indigo brings the outside in; drawing on the local neighbourhood to inspire every aspect of the Hotel. Whether in The Woodsman restaurant or our exclusive private garden, Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon is a great place for locals to gather with friends and family.” Paul Fish, operations manager at Stepnell who worked on the refurb, added: “It’s been amazing to work on such an interesting project, helping to preserve a piece of history that can be enjoyed by the public. The work was incredibly specialist from a refurbishment perspective, so we had a real sense of achievement upon completion. “We faced a few challenges during the build regarding conservation and access to the site due to the historic nature of the hotel, but the team managed to push forward with the works and the outcome is truly stunning.”
