IHG Hotels and Resorts has signed an agreement to open its first Hotel Indigo property in Sweden, located in Stockholm’s waterfront Kvarnholmen district.

The 232-room hotel will be developed by Kvarnholmen Utveckling, a joint venture between Peab and JM, and operated by 1912 Hotels under a franchise deal. Scheduled to open in 2029, the venue will feature a restaurant, a rooftop pool, a spa, and 150 square metres of meeting space.

Kvarnholmen is a waterfront neighbourhood in Nacka on the eastern shore of Stockholm. The new development builds on the group’s strategy to expand across the Nordic region, where it currently has 13 open and pipeline properties, including voco Stockholm – Kista and Ruby Frida.

Willemijn Geels, VP of development for Europe at IHG, said: “We are delighted to bring Hotel Indigo to Stockholm, a city that perfectly embodies the brand’s ethos of celebrating neighbourhood culture through design-led hospitality.

“Sweden is a market with strong and growing appeal for international and domestic travellers alike, and this signing reflects our commitment to expanding our portfolio across the Nordics. We’re thrilled to deepen our relationship with 1912 Hotels, welcome Peab and JM as new partners, and soon introduce guests to the unique story of Kvarnholmen.”
