The Rathbone, Fitzrovia has started a phased refurbishment programme of its guestrooms, suites and public spaces, aimed at enhancing the hotel’s residential character.
The first phase of the project focuses on 72 guestrooms and suites. Work is being carried out in stages to accommodate the building’s various room configurations.
Approximately 75% of the guestroom work is now finished, and the hotel expects to complete this initial stage of the investment programme by summer 2026.
The new interiors use a contemporary British aesthetic. Design details focus on understated finishes rather than decorative styling to maintain the atmosphere of a discreet townhouse.
The second phase of the programme involves a total refurbishment of the lobby, reception and breakfast room. It also includes the renovation of Albert’s Bar.
The hotel, located near Charlotte Street, remains a prominent independent business in the area. Management expects the second phase of the project to conclude in autumn 2026.
Carnarvon Hotels owns and operates the property. The private hospitality company is led by chief executive Daniel Harris, who oversees the long-term stewardship of the site.
Harris said: “The refurbishment reflects a long-term, hands-on commitment to the property and reinforces its position as one of the area’s most established independent hotels.”
