In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

Hyde and Seek London Hyde Park, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, has appointed Paul Davies as general manager ahead of its opening in September 2026.

Davies joins the 309-room hotel to oversee its pre-opening phase, launch strategy, and subsequent day-to-day operations. Owned by Immersive Hospitality Management (IHM), the Lancaster Gate property is currently undergoing a £42m conversion from the former Corus Hotel Hyde Park into an upscale lifestyle destination under Marriott Bonvoy’s Tribute Portfolio brand.

Davies has more than 38 years of hospitality experience and has managed more than 15 hotels across the UK and Ireland. He most recently served as cluster general manager for Marriott International, where he was responsible for eight properties across South West England and Wales generating combined annual revenues of more than £80m.

The hotel site will feature two distinct food and beverage concepts, flexible meeting spaces, a fitness studio and guest rooms influenced by the local Bayswater neighbourhood.

Paul Davies, general manager, said: “I’m delighted to be joining Hyde and Seek, London Hyde Park, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel and leading the hotel through its opening and beyond. The property has a distinctive identity, combining a bohemian spirit with a genuine sense of place, curiosity and connection.

“We want every guest to feel part of something special from the moment they arrive, creating experiences that feel less like a hotel stay and more like becoming part of a living story. I look forward to establishing Hyde & Seek as one of London’s most inviting new hideaways for both visitors and Londoners alike.”

Paul Davies at Hyde & Seek reflects industry trends

News Analysis

The recent appointment of Paul Davies as general manager for Hyde and Seek London Hyde Park ties into the ongoing trend of revitalising established hotel properties for modern markets. Immersive Hospitality Management stated in October 2025 that its £42m redevelopment will transform the former Corus Hotel Hyde Park into a contemporary lifestyle destination, complete with a bohemian aesthetic and various innovative amenities, set to reopen in late Autumn 2026 as Hyde and Seek, joining the Tribute Portfolio brand. This shift signifies a broader strategy in the industry, where older hotels are reimagined to meet changing guest expectations and aesthetic preferences. Hyde and Seek’s redevelopment project is a prime example of this evolution.

Paul Davies’ extensive background, with over 38 years in hospitality and previous leadership roles at Marriott International overseeing multiple properties, resonates with the industry’s inclination towards hiring seasoned professionals for pre-opening phases. This mirrors the strategic moves seen with other major brands like Hyatt, which appointed a leadership team in January 2026 ahead of its own property opening, signifying the critical role of experienced management in launching new hotels successfully. Hyatt’s leadership appointments highlight the industry’s recognition of expertise as pivotal for operational success.

The expansion of the Tribute Portfolio in London through Hyde and Seek signals a continued interest in lifestyle formats within the UK, paralleling the recent debut of the Hyde brand with its first European property opening in 2024. This development reflects a significant trend where brands now look to infuse local culture and unique experiences into their offerings, attracting a diverse array of guests. The recent launch of Hyde London City illustrates the industry’s commitment to lifestyle-oriented hospitality experiences, aligning closely with the vision articulated by Davies for an inviting and experiential stay for guests at Hyde and Seek.
