Glenapp Castle to launch The Nest standalone wellness suite

The suite features private wellness facilities, including a Cube 250 sauna and a natural barrel cold plunge tub

In this episode we speak to Daniel Kyriakides, a partner at law firm Reed Smith. We discuss why private members’ clubs are experiencing a resurgence and what that means for the future of the hotel sector. From heritage buildings being reimagined as lifestyle destinations to hotels borrowing the experiential playbook of members’ clubs, we discuss how the lines between the two are becoming increasingly blurred, and why global growth is on the horizon for the private members club model.

Glenapp Castle, the 21-bedroom Relais and Châteaux hotel located on Scotland’s southwest coast, is set to launch a new standalone suite, The Nest, on 1 July 2026, as part of a strategy to capture wellness-led luxury travel.

The development, located within the estate’s 1830s walled garden, is a 60sqm suite created from the renovation of a former tearoom.

The project is designed to diversify the hotel’s room mix and target international markets including North America and Europe.

Under the ownership of Paul and Poppy Szkiler, the hotel has seen revenue increase sevenfold over the last decade.

The Nest is projected to achieve 65% occupancy and is intended to increase the average length of stay at the property from 2.2 to 2.7 nights.

The suite features private wellness facilities, including a Cube 250 sauna and a natural barrel cold plunge tub.

It is powered by an energy-efficient heating system by NIBE, which holds Quiet Mark accreditation.

This installation makes Glenapp Castle the first hotel to utilise this specific technology. The project timeline spans five months, with construction having commenced in March 2026. The suite offers flexible accommodation for couples or small groups and includes a private outdoor terrace.

This launch follows a series of recent capital investments at the estate, including the Hebridean Sea Safari and the Castle Penthouse Suite.

The addition of The Nest is positioned to appeal to a younger, experience-focused demographic seeking secluded accommodations with access to nature-led activities such as forest bathing and wild swimming.

The project was supported by bank financing and aligns with the estate’s long-term objective of enhancing rate integrity through higher-value, self-contained inventory.

Szkiler, owner of Glenapp Castle, said: “With The Nest, we are responding to demand within the luxury travel sector for high-privacy, self-contained accommodation that supports longer stays and wellness-led travel. This suite is a strategic enhancement of our accommodation and experiential mix, enabling us to capture demand from key international markets while strengthening rate integrity. The Nest expands our inventory and elevates the overall guest proposition, ensuring we remain competitive and meet the expectations of an experience-driven clientele.”

Jill Chalmers, managing director of Glenapp Castle, added: “The launch forms part of a broader, long-term strategic approach to the estate’s ongoing development. It builds on the success of investments such as the Hebridean Sea Safari and Castle Penthouse Suite. The Nest offers a new accommodation type within the grounds, expanding our portfolio to meet the changing demands of the luxury market. It represents our commitment to enhancing the guest experience and supporting our growth trajectory through well-positioned investments.”
