Hotels in the UK have the worst customer service in Europe, according to new research.
The research, conducted by hotel booking portal Hotel Info, analysed more than six million customer reviews left on the site, and ranked UK staff the joint worst with Russia for “friendless and expertise”, with a score of 7.92 out of 10.
In-keeping with this, London is in last place amongst the European cities with only 7.73 points, with Budapest coming top with 8.58 points.
The report said that “if the traveller is expecting the legendary British politeness the actual result is less than satisfactory” but added that some UK cities are able to “save” the good reputation.
Sheffield was the highest scoring UK city with 8.62, Leeds (8.41) was voted into second place by customers while Bristol came third with 8.36. Coventry and Birmingham scored even lower than London with 7.38 and 7.66 respectively.
The top-rated destinations were Finland (8.62), Germany (8.59) and Austria (8.57).
